SUMMARY:Zine Making Workshop May15th
DESCRIPTION:Zine Making Workshop   May15th 12:00-1:00  $15\n\nTake an hour for yourself to let your creative juices flow\, creating your own zine. What is a zine? It is a small\, hand-made publication crafted from a single sheet of paper. Originating in the 1930s\, zines have continued to foster spaces for creative ideas\, unconventional topics\, and social change. After being guided through the steps of creating your basic zine booklet\, you will use the rest of the hour to personalize the pages using various art materials provided by the instructor. At the end of the hour\, you will have an individualized zine to share\, trade\, or start your own zine collection!\n\nAbout Jude-I am a retired elementary school teacher and a lifeline crafter. My earliest memories are of me coloring at the kitchen table while my mom made dinner. In my retirement I have found my inner peace in taking and teaching various art classes and I am truly enjoying this next life chapter.\n\n*Note: Due to working with donated and reclaimed materials: \nClass projects may vary slightly from examples shown in our monthly calendar. \nWe embrace these variations as part of the magic and uniqueness of every session. \nClasses at Thrifty Connections intended for adults and suitable for individuals 16+. \nTicket Policy \nAll ticket sales are final. As a small business\, we operate with limited class capacity.  Classes require advance planning\, preparation time\, and the gathering of materials and supplies. Because of our limited capacity\, we are typically unable to refill seats or recover the costs associated with cancellations. For these reasons\, all class ticket purchases are final and non-refundable. \nIf you’re unable to attend\, your ticket may be transferred to a friend or donated—just let us know ahead of time so we can update our guest list. Thank you for understanding and for supporting our small classes and creative offerings.

SUMMARY:Decorate your Trash Parade costume 4:30-5:00- Child/Parent Event
DESCRIPTION:Join Thrifty Connections for a fun\, hands-on creative workshop as part of the Trash Parade festivities! This year’s parade theme celebrates pollinators\, and we’re calling all Thrifty Bees and Butterflies to help bring it to life. In this family-friendly class\, kids will design and decorate their own bee or butterfly wings using repurposed “trash” materials—turning waste into wearable art. \nParticipants will have 30 minutes to affix as much (or as little) material as they’d like\, so creativity can really take flight. A parent or guardian must stay and assist throughout the session. We’re offering three 30-minute time slots to choose from\, running before and during the downtown festivities\, so you can join in whenever it works best for your schedule. \nAfter  or before crafting depending on your chosen time slot\, families will head downtown on their own to enjoy the main event which starts at 5:00 PM. We’ll regroup at 6:30 PM to come together as a group and march in the Trash Parade. Each child will be given a special role during the parade—whether it’s helping carry a banner or passing out seeds to onlookers—so everyone has a chance to participate in a meaningful way. We’ll also be bringing a life-size hive to the parade as part of our pollinator-themed display. \nHosted by the Schoharie River Center and the Schenectady Environmental Education Center\, the Trash Parade celebrates creativity\, community\, and environmental stewardship. Come get crafty with Thrifty Connections and help us fill the parade with our buzzing\, fluttering crew of thrifty pollinators! \n$5.00 per child \nIn case of rain 0ur decorating event will still be held on Friday rain or shine but the parade will be moved to Sunday during the Green Market. \nTicket Policy \nAll ticket sales are final.
