Decorate your Trash Parade costume 4:30-5:00- Child/Parent Event

May 15 @ 4:30 PM5:00 PM
$5.00

Join Thrifty Connections for a fun, hands-on creative workshop as part of the Trash Parade festivities! This year’s parade theme celebrates pollinators, and we’re calling all Thrifty Bees and Butterflies to help bring it to life. In this family-friendly class, kids will design and decorate their own bee or butterfly wings using repurposed “trash” materials—turning waste into wearable art.

Participants will have 30 minutes to affix as much (or as little) material as they’d like, so creativity can really take flight. A parent or guardian must stay and assist throughout the session. We’re offering three 30-minute time slots to choose from, running before and during the downtown festivities, so you can join in whenever it works best for your schedule.

After  or before crafting depending on your chosen time slot, families will head downtown on their own to enjoy the main event which starts at 5:00 PM. We’ll regroup at 6:30 PM to come together as a group and march in the Trash Parade. Each child will be given a special role during the parade—whether it’s helping carry a banner or passing out seeds to onlookers—so everyone has a chance to participate in a meaningful way. We’ll also be bringing a life-size hive to the parade as part of our pollinator-themed display.

Hosted by the Schoharie River Center and the Schenectady Environmental Education Center, the Trash Parade celebrates creativity, community, and environmental stewardship. Come get crafty with Thrifty Connections and help us fill the parade with our buzzing, fluttering crew of thrifty pollinators!

$5.00 per child

In case of rain 0ur decorating event will still be held on Friday rain or shine but the parade will be moved to Sunday during the Green Market.
